CHICAGO --- Registering new records at their respective schools, Saint Xavier University's Ellie Willging (Freeport, Ill.) and Olivet Nazarene University's Kylie Bradley (SR/Portland, Tenn.) used those efforts to claim Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference Women's Track & Field Athlete of the Week honors, the league office announced on Wednesday.
Bradley, a senior, set a new school record in the javelin with her toss of 42.88 meters (140 feet, 8 inches) at the Eastern Illinois University Big Blue Invite last Tuesday. That event-winning throw bested 21 other competitors and currently ranks as the third-best heave in the NAIA this year.
Besides that "A" standard effort, Bradley also earned an automatic bid to nationals in the long jump with her 5.75-meter effort (18' 10.5"). That was sixth best out of 32 competitors at the meet, which featured teams from both NCAA I (Illinois State, Eastern Illinois, Western Illinois, Valparaiso) and NCAA II (Grand Valley State) schools among others.
Willging, a junior, was named the conference's top track athlete for the week after shattering a school record in the 5K run at the Washington University (Mo.) Invite on Friday. Her time of 16:47.98 was 14 seconds faster than her NAIA Indoor National Championship title run.
Willging's time was also second best out of 128 runners in the field at Washington and qualified her for the NAIA Outdoor Track & Field National Championships.
Other Track Nominees: Sarah Ray (SR/Warsaw, Ind.) (Olivet Nazarene), Jenna Moody (St. Francis), Kellyn Vale (Calumet St. Joseph).
Other Field Nominees: Raven Kelly (St. Francis), Jennifer Donnell (Judson), Natalie Nowesnick (Calumet St. Joseph).
